A companion who lives near you
Home care rounds fall apart on travel. A carer with visits scattered across four boroughs spends the day in the car, arrives late, and cannot be the same face every week for anybody. That is the single most common complaint families have about visiting care, and it is a routing problem rather than a people problem.
So we match on distance as well as on temperament. Each companion takes clients within a few miles of their own home, and where enquiries arrive is where we recruit next, so the companion who comes to your door is somebody from your side of the city.
If we do not yet have a companion near you, we will say so on the phone and tell you honestly how quickly we can match one, rather than sending somebody from the other side of Greater Manchester and hoping the traffic holds.
The ten boroughs, and who lives in them
Greater Manchester has just over three million people, and 15.66% of them are aged 65 or over. But the ten boroughs are not alike: Stockport has more than twice the share of over-65s that the city of Manchester does.
We publish this because it is where the people we visit are likely to be, and because it shapes where we recruit: a companion should be able to reach four or five clients without getting in a car for half an hour.
