Keeping a routine going

The support has ended. The things you started still matter.

Keep making time for the walks, activities and conversations that helped your week. Regular one-to-one companionship can help you continue what you want to keep doing.

Two adults spending time together

You have made a start

You might have been going out with a support worker, trying a group or building a routine around something you enjoy. When those visits end, you may still want someone to do those things with.

Whitegreen offers ongoing companionship and practical support for adults across Greater Manchester. We begin with what has been useful to you and what you want to happen next.

Tell us what you want to continue

Perhaps it is the weekly walk. Perhaps having someone come round made it easier to get ready and leave the house. Or the most important part was having time to talk without feeling rushed.

There is no need to start again with a completely different plan. We can talk about the activities you already enjoy and the company you would like as you continue them.

An introduction, with your involvement

We talk with you about your interests, routine and the support you need. You meet a companion before booking visits. If a professional or family member is involved, we agree with you what they can share and how they can help with arrangements.

Where a handover would be useful, we can discuss it with your existing service with your permission. Booking with Whitegreen is a separate arrangement; a previous referral does not automatically transfer to us.

Your first week with Whitegreen

Before the first visit, we write down the activity you want to keep going, the days that suit and what made the previous support useful. With your permission, we speak to the person who has been supporting you so you do not have to explain everything again.

On the first visit, your companion comes to your home at the agreed time. You might check the bus route together, gather what you need for a class and make the journey side by side. At the group, your companion stays for the part you want company for, then travels home with you. If you would rather start at home, the visit can be a game, a conversation or planning the next outing.

At the next visit, you can repeat the route, return to the same group or try something different. We ask what worked and what you want to change. There is no pressure to start going alone: continuing to enjoy the activity together can be the plan.

You have the same named companion, a named backup introduced within the first month and a written note after every visit. We agree with you who receives the updates.

Make room for change

You might want regular company for the foreseeable future, or support around one activity for a while. We agree a starting routine and check how it is working. Tell us what you want to keep, change or stop.

Your companion provides company, encouragement and practical help. Any therapy, treatment or specialist support continues with the relevant professionals.

How visits are paid for

Whitegreen is a paid service. You or someone supporting you can arrange visits privately. If you already have an agreed personal budget or direct payment, ask the team managing it whether the proposed visits can be included. We can provide a description of the service and its price for that discussion.

A professional referral does not by itself mean visits are funded. See our prices and talk to us about a starting plan.
